Agric Minister petitioned over appointment of NCRI Director

A group, Bida Forum, has partitioned the minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, over the appointment of a new executive Secretary of the National Cereal Research Institute (NCRI), Badeggi in Niger State.
The group in the petition said there was plan to impose a new executive Secretary at the NCRI, a move capable of denying the host community the opportunity of having an indigene as head of the institute in its over a century of existence.
The statement, according to the Chairman of the forum, Dr. Umar Saganuwan Mohammed, said it was disheartening to learn that they were about to be thrown back to the ugly part of nepotism whereby primordial sentiment was the dominant consideration in appointments or citing of projects.
In the same vein, secretary of the forum, Dyadya Mohammed Umar, called on President Buhari  to take special interest in the case and ensure that the best candidate who is from the host town was rightfully given the appointment as the first indigenous Executive Director of the institution.
The petition reads in part, “we are aware that one of the indigenous contenders for the position in the recently conducted competitive interview held on the 1st of March,2016 at the ACRN Abuja, came first, it should be noted that this candidate who holds a PHD in Agronomy has had nearly three decades of working experiences in the same organization.’’
