The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Mohammad Abubakar, says robust partnership between the ministry and relevant organizations will promote agroecology in the country. Abubakar said this in Abuja during the policy dialogue on agroecology in Nigeria.
The minister, represented by Engr. Frank Satumari, Director, Agric Extension Department at the ministry, said the workshop was occasioned by the initiative of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Agroecology Programme to promote agroecology practices across the region.

“The main objective of the ECOWAS Agroecology Programme is to provide support to family farms in an agroecological transition that strikes a balance between economic performance, food security, strengthening of resilience, preservation of the environment and the health of the population,” he said.
He said the workshop was intended to galvanize the views and opinions of the stakeholders in the agriculture sector, especially as it affects initiating national policies to promote agroecological practices in Nigeria.
“My ministry greatly appreciates the ECOWAS for this initiative and for considering Nigeria for this support. On our own part as a ministry, we assure you of our commitment to pushing agroecology to greatness arising from this prompt of the ECOWAS.
“My ministry will endeavour to promote agroecology and also seeks collaboration with other relevant organizations in delivering the programme,” he said.
