The Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh, has enjoined states in the country to emulate Kebbi State’s agricultural initiatives, particularly in the area of rice production.

The minister, who was represented by Engineer Abdullahi Shehu, a director in the ministry, at the Daily Trust/Kebbi State Farmers Interactive Forum and Exhibition on Monday, said because of its commitment in the development of agriculture, Kebbi was at the forefront of rice production in the country.

He said, “Because Governor Bagudu is always looking for areas to help the state’s farmers and due to the active agricultural activities in the state, the Minister of Agriculture has directed me to train 100 unemployed youths from the 21 local government areas of the state as agric extension workers.”

He stated that because of the state’s experience in rice production, many people from other states in the country had been calling him to see how they could be assisted.

“For everything in agriculture, Kebbi is at the forefront. It is number one when we talk of agriculture and that is how we see it in our office in Abuja,” he said.

The representative of the minister who commended Daily Trust for providing the platform for farmers and other stakeholders to improve in agriculture related activities in the state enjoined other organisations to also see how they could help in the effort to boost agricultural potentials of the state and the country at large.
