The HortiNigeria programme funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Nigeria has revealed that the four-year programme has a target of 60,000 farmers, out of which 24,000 are women.

Addressing participants at an event to empower women in Kano, head of one out of the four components, Malam Abdullahi Umar, revealed that the programme was implemented through the International Fertiliser Development Centre (IFDV) and its consortium partners, East-West Seed Knowledge Transfer (EWS-KT), Wageningen University and Research (WUR), among others.

He explained that innovation had been working on several sectors to ensure a positive shift in vegetable production in some selected states in Nigeria with much emphasis on women and youths.

Similarly,  EWS-KT Manager, Madam Ruth Sada, said through the past two years the programme had been working with women across the two states to educate and support them to become vegetable seed producers, as well as good managers of agricultural production, especially horticulture.
