A practical agricultural skills project, designed to equip Nigerian inmates and tagged the “Farming Justice Project,” has been flagged off by the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), FCT Command, in collaboration with Hope Behind Bars Africa at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje.

The initiative, which began in May, is currently being implemented in four locations: Dukpa Farm Centre, Gwagwalada; Kirikiri Female Custodial Centre, Lagos; Ogba Farm Centre, Edo State; and Kuje Medium Custodial Centre, FCT.

A statement from the Public Relations Officer, NCoS FCT Command, DSC AS Duza, said the project aims to enhance food security within and outside custodial centres and promote the reformation and reintegration of incarcerated individuals.

Speaking at the flag-off, the Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, represented by the Controller of Corrections, Agric, Suleiman Saidu Bosso, lauded the initiative and commended Hope Behind Bars Africa for sponsoring the project.

The Controller of Corrections, FCT Command, Christopher Peter Jen, expressed gratitude for the initiative, assuring that under his superintendence, the resources provided will be utilized effectively.

The Executive Director and Founder of Hope Behind Bars Africa, Funke Adeoye, expressed her organization’s commitment to meaningful partnerships for the rehabilitation of inmates, stressing that the project aligns with global best practices.
