The workers, under the aegis of Agriculture and Allied Employees’ Union of Nigeria (AAEUN), intend to use the project, which is also code-named gentleman farmers’ scheme, to mobilise more people into farming as a way of boosting food security.
Chairman of AAEUN in Kwara State, Comrade David Ehindero, while inducting the state Head of Service, Alhaji Dabarako Mohammed, as a gentleman farmer, said the union is poised to complement the agricultural revolution of the state government.
He said the induction of the head of service, who is the number one worker in the state, was to encourage him to mobilise and spur all the state’s civil servants “to own a farm, at least a backyard vegetable, poultry, snail, fish, mushroom farming and to a greater extent large scale farming.
Receiving the award, the head of service encouraged all civil servants to go into farming practice in order to liberate their family from food insufficiency and as such their future would have been secured.
