Agriculture has been identified as a strong weapon capable of eradicating poverty in Katsina state.
Alhaji Ahmed Aminu Yar’adua, a gubernatorial aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina state stated this while speaking to Kano Chronicle in Zaria.
Aminu promised to initiate agricultural policies to address abject poverty in the state when elected governor in 2019.
He said agriculture was the only sector that would easily take Nigerians out of poverty.
He said, “Only agriculture can guarantee employment opportunities to all manner of people regardless of qualification. My mission is to effectively address unemployment and under-employment by ensuring that people have something doing to earn a living.
“There is need to prioritise agriculture to address many issues such as abject poverty, youth unemployment and bring contentment in life of citizenry.”
The former Permanent Secretary, said the late Umaru Musa Yar’adua’s government recorded tremendous successes in Katsina, because of the people-centred policies the government implemented.
He added; “I will introduce measures that will ensure rural development to give rural dwellers a sense of belonging and avert rural-urban migration.”
