Agriculture union wants payment of hazard allowance

Agriculture and Allied Employees Union of Nigeria( AAEUN) says its members are long overdue for the payment of hazard allowance.

Deputy National President (South)  of the union comrade Robert Okoroafor  stated this when the leadership of the Nigerian Labour (NLC) led by its president, comrade Ayuba Wabba  paid a familiarisation visit to AAEUN headquarters  in Abuja recently.

Okoroafor said the union had been in this struggle to get the hazard allowance paid for over 15 years. 

 He said, “Before the expiration of the last administration, we submitted a proposal to the Federal Government on the payment of hazard allowance which was put together by our three member federal ministries viz, Federal ainistry  of Environment, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, but the proposal is still pending in the office of Secretary to Government of the federation.”

He called on the NLC to lead the campaign on the need for the Executive and Legislative arms of government to consider the payment of hazard allowance to its members because Agriculture is one of the three most hazardous occupations in the world.

Earlier  NLC President had assured the union of the congress’ support, adding that the visit was to know their challenges with a view of  finding solutions to them.
