The Imo State director Federal Ministry of Agriculture Mr. Clement Iwunze disclosed this to Daily Trust in his office Owerri, recently.
He said this was in addition to the approval for the clearing of 100 hectares of farm land to the association to be located at Owerri West LGA of Imo State for cassava cultivation.
Before now, the Federal Ministry has earlier entered into discussions with relevant agencies and officers, including state directors on the need to establish a tractor hiring centres in the state from where tractors would be hired to interested individuals at an affordable rate.
Iwunze said that the state branch of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture might allow the association to use its premises as its tractor hiring centre.
The state director of FACAN Mrs. Opara Stela said that both the centre and the 100 hectares of farm land would be situated at Owerri West, adding the association would pay its own counterpart fund to enable it begin functioning.
She also said that the tractors would be hired out to farmers at government approved rates, adding that the essence was to encourage farmers to improve their production.
Opara said that government considered it necessary to approve the establishment of the tractor hiring centres to support farmers, regretting the sufferings of farmer using their hands to work in their farms.
