The group in its seven-point communiqué issued at the end of its general meeting held yesterday in Owerri, jointly endorsed by the regional president of the association, Mr.Moses Onuoha, the regional vice president Mr.Tony Abarah and three others, called on all Nigerians to join hands to vote for what they described as an agricultural-friendly president.
They commended Jonathan for introducing Agricultural Transformation Agenda, particularly the Growth Enhancement Scheme (GES) for farmers in the country since 2012.
The group said that GES has increased farmer’s access to fertiliser and seeds from 11% before to 90%, noting that farmers now receive fertiliser at 50% subsidy and improved seeds free of charge. The group expressed joy with the rapid increase in agricultural productivity as a result of GES programme, saying that the measure has eliminated the corruption experienced in fertiliser distribution under previous administrations.
