Members of the Obubra community have appealed to Governor Benedict Ayade of Cross River State to rehabilitate the only access road to the site of the Okpambe Fishing and Cultural Festival to be held in March 2022. 

They sent the appeal through the Obubra council chairman and Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Eric Anderson. 

An official of the organising committee and a youth leader, Mr Eriacy Confidence, said the appeal was necessary in view of the traffic the festival attracts. 

“To avert the massive dust the road raises, the government should assist the community to work on their only road so that tourists from outside the council and state would not be put in undue discomfort. 

“This will highly promote the image of the festival, the local government and our state.” 

Another stakeholder, Mrs Lucy Donald also said: “We call on the local and state governments to help us develop the festival site before it’s too late.  

“Without the road, the festival will be a mess.  It will disgrace the tourism value of the state.  It’s getting late. This is why we are frenetic and want attention to be paid to the road.”
