AHF to mark World AIDS Day by screening 50,000 Nigerians

As part of activities to commemorate the 2018 World AIDS Day, (WAD), AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), is set to provide free HIV screening to about 50, 000 Nigerians in Abuja, Anambra, Cross River, Kogi, Benue and Nasarawa State.
The Country Program Director of AHF, Dr. Echey Ijezie, in a statement said that, ‘‘this is consistent with the mandate of AHF to support and contribute to the eradication of HIV/AIDS out of Nigeria through supporting the effort of the Nigerian government through the Federal Ministry of Health and the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA).’’
Dr. Echey added that a strong testing drive by AHF for the World AIDS Day is in sync with the global theme of the day: Know Your Status, ‘’which is remarkable given the poor attitude to HIV testing in our society and reminds stakeholders of the need to keep promises made on AIDS.’’
AHF will distribute 300, 000 condoms across the selected states says Steve Aborisade the AHF Nigeria’s Advocacy & Marketing Manager.
He said across the six states, AHF teams will be stationed strategically in different parts to offer free HIV counselling and testing.
He added that in FCT, they are collaborating with the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) to provide; STI screening, Condom & sanitary pad distribution, Blood glucose check & counselling and Blood pressure check & counselling
Steve further stated that there will be mobile community film screening at Mpape, a suburb in the FCT.
World AIDS day is celebrated every first of December globally.
