The Spotlight for Transparency and Accountability Initiative in collaboration with the Nigeria Youth Futures Fund has launched an open-budget and project tracking platform for Nigeria’s local governments.

The Bayani AI was developed to make local budget and project information understandable and usable as well as to help people to see how public funds flow to their communities.

Launching the platform at the Bricks Point Hotel, Damaturu Yobe State, the Chief Executive Officer of the Spotlight for Transparency and Accountability Initiative, Mu’azu Alhaji Modu, said Bayani AI was provided to drive transparency and demand accountability at the grassroots.

He said the digital platform was designed to provide clear and accessible information on local government allocation, budget and projects­ in a bid to empower citizens, journalists and reformers with reliable data.

According to him, the AI platform can provide a complete analysis on how much the local governments earned from federation allocation over the last five years and how to engage decision makers to demand accountability.

He added that Bayani AI it’s a multi-dimensional information platform where the budget of 774 local governments on Health, Agriculture, Security, Education and Infrastructure will be provided.

Aliyu Alhassan Kutugi, Head of Research and Operation of the Spotlight for Transparency and Accountability Initiative, said the AI platform was developed to bridge the gap between the communities, citizens and the local governments allocation, budget and projects.
