At least four people were killed in Agwa village, Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State in a fresh attack by bandits.
Daily Trust gathered that Mallam Tanko, the younger brother of the District Head of Ajami in Mashegu LGA, who had been bedridden for a week, died while attempting to flee from the attackers on Thursday.
It was gathered that an unspecified number of people were also kidnapped during the coordinated assaults, which targeted several villages across Wushishi and Mashegu LGAs.
Residents said the attacks, which began on Thursday afternoon, lasted several hours, forcing many to abandon their homes and seek refuge in the bush.

Mallam Danjuma, a resident of Ajami said “When they came, they ransacked my wife’s room and set all her belongings on fire. Nothing was spared. Many of us have been sleeping in the bush for the past three days,” he said.
Another resident, who wished to remain anonymous, narrated the ordeal of his family and the difficulty in retrieving his uncle’s body for burial.
“We attempted to retrieve his body for burial, but the bandits have taken over the area. Right now, his remains are still in the bush where he passed away,” he said.
Some of the affected communities in Mashegu LGA include Ajami, Agwa, Jiwawa, Palali, Gushi, Anguwan-Amala, Anguwan-Bamayi, and Ilamu. In Wushishi LGA, Akare, Cheji, Chigirin, Sayyadi, Babagi, and Kusogo were also affected.
When contacted, Niger State Commissioner for Homeland Security, Brigadier General Bello Abdullahi Mohammed, acknowledged the ongoing crisis.
“The attacks have been ongoing for the past three days, beginning on Tuesday evening. The state government is aware, and we are on top of the situation. We are recording successes against them,” he stated.
