Air Algerie, the national carrier of Algeria, has concluded plans to commence inaugural direct flight service from Algiers to Abuja, with effect from 6th April 2025.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed this in a statement yesterday, saying the development marks a significant milestone in the growing diplomatic and economic relations between Nigeria and Algeria.

It would be that the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, had in February this year received the Algerian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mezoued Hosine, where they discussed the operationalisation of the Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) arrangements between Nigeria and Algeria.

Following the talks, the airline had received the necessary approval from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to commence the flights on April 6th.

The new route, operated by Algeria’s national carrier, Algerie Air with a Boeing 737 Aircraft, will positively enhance connectivity, promote tourism, and facilitate trade and investment between the two nations, the Foreign Affairs ministry said.

The ministry commended the significant role played by the Embassy of Nigeria in Algiers for not only facilitating this noble goal but also seeing to its fruition.

The Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of Nigeria in Algiers, leadership of the Nigerian Community in Algeria and representatives of the Algerian government are expected to be on board the scheduled inaugural flight.
