The remains of Squadron Leader Adekunle Suara, pilot of the ill-fated Dornier-228 which crashed in Kaduna August 29, were buried yesterday by the Nigeria Air Force.
He was laid to rest in military tradition during a solemn ceremony after a Christian church service at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja.
Highlights of the ceremony included the marching-in body of the fallen hero, reading of his resume, lowering of the casket, wreath laying, firing of volleys by the burial party and sounding the last post.
In a condolence message to Suara’s family, the Chief of Defence Staff General Gabriel Olonisakin, who was represented by Air Vice Marshal Umar Omeiza, called for sober reflection and lauded late Suara for paying the supreme prize in the service of his fatherland.
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Mashal Sadique Abubakar, described the deceased as a gallant and dedicated officer whose death was a great loss to the Air Force family.
The NAF Dornier-228 aircraft, with call sign NAF030, crashed into a house at Ribadu Cantonment Kaduna killing all seven people on board, while there were no casualties was recorded on the ground.
