Residencies for early to mid-career African artists, who predominantly live and work on the continent include Bundanon Trust in Australia, Instituto Sacatar in Brazil, Fountainhead Residency and International Studio Curatorial Program both in the USA.
Applications are also being accepted from mid to late career, highly accomplished artists for residencies at the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Centre located on the shores of Lake Como in Italy.
All residencies are available to innovative, provocative and socially conscious fiction and nonfiction writers, playwrights, poets, visual and performance artists, curators, composers, video/ filmmakers as well as artists working in digital forms.
Each residency award has a distinct structure, set of requirements and duration. The costs of the residency and round-trip airfare are included in each residency award made. Applications are open until October 15 2018.
For the last seven years, the Africa Centre’s AIR programme has successfully awarded 69 African artists, among them Mona Eltahawy, Victor Ehikhamenor, Njabulo Ndebele and Aida Muluneh, with residency opportunities around the world.
