Security personnel of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) yesterday arrested a cleaner with $271, 135 at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.
The money was found on Mr. Tijani Owolabi, who works with a cleaning contractor, at a screening point of the international terminal.
FAAN spokesman, Onyekwere Nnaekpe, confirmed the arrest in a statement last night, saying part of the money was found with Owolabi while the rest was recovered from a sanitary bucket he was trying to carry through the screening. He was suspected to be conveying the foreign currency to an accomplice at the sterile area of the terminal.
The cleaner was handed over to the appropriate security agencies for further investigation, it was learnt. No passenger is allowed to travel with more than $10, 000 and any amount above that is expected to be declared with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
