The Ministry of Aviation has said the planned concession of the four most profitable airports in Nigeria to private investors will still happen before the end of President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration in May 2023.
Daily Trust reports that as part of the Aviation Roadmap, the Murtala Muhammad International Airport Lagos, the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, the Port Harcourt International Airport, and the Mallam Aminu International Airport, Kano are slated for concession. The Ministry of Aviation has already prequalified some interested investors and might soon take their financial bids. It is not immediately clear when the financial bids will happen before sources say by June 2022, the financial bid process may have been concluded. Some stakeholders have expressed doubts the concession process will still happen in the lifetime of this government.
Speaking in Abuja on Thursday at the aviation workers and stakeholder’ sensitisation conference, North Central Zone by the joint Consultative & Negotiating Council (CNC), the Director Human Resources, Federal Ministry of Aviation, Alh. Shehu Dogo Mohammed said the concession process has reached an advanced stage and will happen in the lifetime of this government as promised by the Minister of Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika.
Chairman of the Joint Consultative and Negotiation Council and the organisers of the event, Comrade Hector Nnadi, said there are issues in the planned concession and the minister is handling that.
On the conference significance, he said there is a new norm called digitalisation which is also part of the roadmap adding that personnel management automation is now critical as they cannot continue in the new normal.
