As part of activities marking the 2018 World Hijab Day (WHD) celebrated every February 1 and themed “We can do it too #StrongInHijab” the Coalition of Muslim Women in Nigeria (CNMW) has call for more awareness on the importance and propriety of the Hijab.

This is as speakers at the fifth commemoration held at the Abuja National Mosque themed “Stand for Muslim Women’s Right to Cover,” call for respect and honour for Muslim women using hijab.

Wife of President Hajiya Aisha Buhari said it is important to accord the desired respect for those using hijab as it connotes honour, respect, dignity and its observance being to please Allah.

Represented by Barrister Aisha Galadima Gana, the wife of the President urged Muslim women to imbibe the fear of Allah, etiquette, and embodiment of good character which the usage of hijab entails.

Also, the wife of a formal Vice President Hajiya Amina Namadi Sambo called for continuous dialogue and enlightenment so that more people can understand the propriety and right of hijab usage.

On the case of Al-Jannah Firdausa Amasa who was refused the Call to Bar over the usage of hijab, Hajiya Sambo said this shows that more efforts is needed to enlighten Nigerians on hijab.

The Guest Lecturer and National Legal Adviser Dawah Coordinating Council of Nigeria (DCCN) Mallam AbdulWahab Oyedokun who spoke on the “Right to Hijab: Competing Narratives in the Light of the Qur’an, Constitutional and Human Rights Treaty Frameworks and International Comparative Practices” expressed sadness that those at the fore front of restructuring of Nigeria are at the same time most vociferous against Hijab or anything that will acknowledge Islamic values as part of our national life.

Speaking on many industrialized nation upholding the rights of Muslim women to use hijab even in Military and other security agencies, he call for sustain efforts at ensuring that the rights of Nigerian Muslim women to use hijab are protected.

Also, the National Ameerah of Women in Da’awah Hajiya Maryam Idris Othman call for strategy review on hijab usage to ensure its success as many young Muslim females are firmly using hijab across the country.
