Wife of the president,  Hajiya Aisha Muhammadu Buhari has enjoined wives of governors in the country to spearhead all advocacy required to ensure the successful implementation of the biannual Maternal and Newborn Child Health Week (MNCH) week in their states.
She made the call while flagging off the Kebbi State Maternal and Newborn Child Health (MNCH) week, and free cancer screening programme organized by the wife of the Kebbbi State governor and founder of  Medicaid Cancer Foundation, Dr Zainab Atiku Bagudu in Kebbi State.
A statement from the foundation said she commended Dr Bagudu saying such initiatives will help tackle the menace of maternal mortality in the country, in addition to being in line with the objectives of her “Future Assured” programme.
The president’s wife also commissioned the Jega General Hospital named after her by the state government and the newly upgraded Birnin Yari primary health care centre. Free breast and cervical cancer screening was provided by the Medicaid Cancer Foundation in collaboration with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK).
Founder, Medicaid Cancer Foundation, Dr Zainab Bagudu said the state government has successfully screened over 2000 women for breast and cervical since October 2015.  She said the screening team have been training indigenous nurses across the state, in addition to following up positive patients. 
Also in attendance at the flag off were the state governor, Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole, and UNFPA country representative Rati Ndhiovu, among others.
