Oyo State governor, Senator Isiaq Abiola Ajimobi, has called for the improvement of radio lesson programmes to reduce the level of illiteracy in the state.
Speaking while receiving representatives of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) led by Mr. John Edeh, Governor Ajimobi said that adults who may be ashamed of attending regular classes would prefer education through radio. To this end, he said the state government would be willing to provide the necessary incentives to strengthen radio lessons to ensure mass literacy.
The governor then suggested the inclusion of vocational training and skills acquisition in the mass literacy programmes to empower the beneficiaries.
Earlier, the leader of delegation Mr. Edeh emphasized the need for government at all levels to support adult and youths education. He noted that in 2012, the Federal Government had initiated a programme to revitalize adult and youths literacy which was aimed at reducing Nigerian illiteracy level of about 6 million youths and adults.
