“I urge you all not to relent in showcasing your God-given talents, even with your challenges. The sky shall be your springboard,’’ she said.

Ajimobi gave the charge at the closing ceremony of the 2011 Oyo State Disabled Sports Competition, jointly organised by state government and the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan.

Represented by Mrs Janet Adeyemo, the wife of the deputy governor, Ajimobi, also assured the physically-challenged in the state of government’s continued support.

Mr Adedapo Adeshina, the Oyo State Commissioner for Sports, saluted the courage of the physically-challenged who in spite of their disabilities engaged in sporting activities.

Adeshina urged corporate organisations in the state to emulate the NDIC in the discharge of their corporate social responsibility targeted at uplifting the status and standard of living of the physically-challenged.

“The Oyo State Government, under Sen. Abiola Ajimobi, will continue to recognise corporate organisations that engage in activities aimed at alleviating the sufferings in the society,’’ he said.

Mr Adedapo Adeleke, Executive Director, NDIC, also encouraged the physically-challenged not to see their condition as the end of the road but to build a spirit of achieving success.

Adeleke, who reeled out some of NDIC’s achievements, also advocated the use of “special people’s sports’’, instead of “disabled people’s sports’’
