The Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force on the Environment, CSP Adetayo Akerele, has pledged to sustain efforts aimed at sanitising Lagos and ridding the state of criminal activities that threaten the safety of residents.

Akerele gave the assurance in Lagos on Wednesday after receiving the Excellence in Public Service award at the 2025 edition of The Eagle Awards.

Speaking shortly after the presentation, the task force chairman said the recognition would further motivate his team to intensify its work in line with the vision of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to make Lagos peaceful, safe and secure.

“I want to thank the organisers of this award for recognising the work we are doing in Lagos as a task force team,” Akerele said.

“This recognition will serve as motivation to continue the good work so that Lagos can remain a safe and desirable place to live and do business,” he added.

Akerele was accompanied to the event by senior members of the Lagos State Task Force on the Environment.

At the ceremony, the Humanitarian Impact Award was presented to a Peoples Democratic Party gubernatorial aspirant in Oyo State and entrepreneur, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, in recognition of his philanthropic activities and support for social causes across the country.

The Good Governance category produced two winners, with the Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area, Prince Usman Akanbi Hamzat, emerging as Local Government Chairman of the Year, while the lawmaker representing Ifako-Ijaiye I Constituency at the Lagos State House of Assembly was named Lawmaker of the Year.

Other recipients included the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Dr Adekunle Olayinka, who was honoured as Special Adviser of the Year, and Captain Thompson Akpobome Biokoro, a sailor and community development advocate, who received the Eagle Patriot Award.

A highlight of the event was a session on retirement planning and annuity insurance delivered by Mr Oyekola Taiwo Zacharia of American International Insurance Plc. Zacharia was also recognised as Annuity Insurance Icon of the Year.
