Major General Sunday Idoko, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army commissioned it when he visited army formations under his command in Calabar.

According to General Idoko, the squash court was built single handedly by Yusuf, the Commander 13 Brigade, to actualize the vision he nurtured 15 years ago when he served as a Major at 13 Brigade, Calabar.

Gen Idoko said, “I understand that not one Naira was given to him. He built it single-handedly from his resources to assist squash buffs and the army personnel to restore and sustain Nigeria’s glory in the sport.”

Earlier, Yusuf had said that he built the squash facility in the barracks to actualise his dream for the sport nurtured 15 years ago when he served as Major in 13 Brigade.

Yusuf confirmed to Feverpitch that he built the facility from his personal resources and donations from friends.

He said: “I built this from my personal resources and donations from friends and contacts.

The components were sourced locally and from the United Kingdom.

“I did this as part of my contribution to restore the rightful position of Nigeria as a vanguard in in Squash development in Africa and to get our people to show more interest in the game.

“I realized that as the Vice President of the federation it was also incumbent on me to promote the sport.

Also, Olufemi Ajagbe, the President National Squash Federation, also confirmed the class of the squash court, saying it is currently the “best in Nigeria’’. He said the new court would boost the game especially as Cross River would be hosting the NSF in 2014.
