Seven years after his last album, sometimes-controversial singer Akon is making up for lost time, as he’s set to release a five-part album titled ‘Stadium’, describing it as ‘high concept’ this year.
While Grammy-nominated singer/rapper/producer Akon has not announced an exact arrival date for his new album, his fourth studio effort, and the first since ‘Freedom’ was released in 2008, the Senegalese-American star also hinted at an album video to be posted soon on his Instagram.
Some of the collaborations to be included in the set include one with red-hot Nigerian singer Wizkid, which had been mentioned on Facebook in September last year. The duo had collaborated before on the track ‘Don’t Dull’, officially released in 2010, with Akon featured on the remix.
Wizkid has also collaborated with other top American acts, including rapper Wale.
Despite the hiatus from his solo work, Akon had an active year of cameos in 2014, appearing on tracks by Jeezy and Chris Brown, among others. He tweeted on New Year’s Day, that his new effort will span five albums, each rooted in a different musical genre.
Akon’s website is currently streaming one single from each disc: the rave-ready “Better” (featuring Niko the Kid) from Stadium: Euro; the sympathetic ballad “To Each His Own” from Stadium: Pop; the hip-hop-inflected “Whole Lot” from Stadium: Urban; the dubby love ode “Just a Man” (featuring Stephen Marley) from Stadium: Island; and the heavily percussive “Feeling a Nikka” (featuring D’Banje) from Stadium: World.
Feelers from Akon fans on social media indicate the album just might be a huge hit, which the singer needs after his long hiatus.
