The Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) yesterday successfully performed the first spine surgery in the hospital.
This was contained in a statement issued by the deputy director, Department of Public Relations of the hospital, Hauwa Muhd Abdullahi and made available to newsmen in Kano.
The statement noted that the consultant neurosurgeon and team leader for the surgery, Dr Musbahu Ahmed, disclosed that it was conducted following the donation of the equipment by a philanthropist last year and its installation by the hospital management.
“He explained that the patient was referred to the Neurology Surgical Clinic of the hospital with an abnormality of the spine about a year ago, but due to the non-availability of that equipment, the patient was again referred to another health facility.
“Dr Musbahu expressed gratitude to the Almighty God for the successful conduct and completion of the first spine surgery in the AKTH, which was carried out on a 53-year-old woman from Adamawa State,” the statement added.
