The Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Senator George Akume has expressed optimism that the 2021 Sahel Games to be staged in Nigeria by the Organization of Military Sports in Africa (OMSA) will bring about strong military collaboration in combating terrorism and other security challenges in the subcontinent.

Akume said this on Wednesday in Abuja after his investiture as patron of OMSA by the president of OMSA, Brig-Gen. Maikano Abdullahi, who led a continental delegation to the minister.

The Minister said “I have accepted to be one of your Patrons and to be part of the Team that will take the Tournament Torch to Mr. President. Let me also inform you that your request for financial support to host the first edition of Sahel Games in Abuja has been forwarded to the National Lottery Trust Fund for positive action(s).

“I assure you that President Muhammadu Buhari will continue to engage and encourage all well-meaning Nigerians in the protection and sustenance of our nationhood and development,” he said.

Earlier, Brig-Gen. Abdullahi said their visit also included the inspection of sporting facilities.

“They are here, one to see how we can move the organisation to the next level, secondly for them to inspect our facilities for hosting the next Sahel Games on October 9-19,” he said.
