Lawmaker representing Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District, Senator Bassey Akpan, has built a sports centre for youths in the area and a 1.3-kilometre road.
The Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan, is billed to commission the road and multipurpose composite sports facility located on two acres of land in Ifa Ikot Akpan community, Uyo Local Government Area next week.
Chief Okon Usung, Chairman, Central Planning Committee of the thanksgiving/commissioning project said the complex, which is among the constituency projects of the lawmaker will also serve as a community and youth development centre.
“The multi-million naira complex among other facilities has a standard football field, basketball pitch, lawn tennis court, and a 1,500-capacity event centre.
Some youths in the senatorial district have expressed delight at the complex saying the mini sports complex would promote sporting activities among the constituents as well as other recreational activities.
One of them, Mr Inemesit Nsoh said, “I commend the efforts of Senator Akpan to target the youths in one of his projects. I am much interested in the ICT hub. Already 30 youths are currently training there”.
