Out of three matches played at the just concluded Super Cup for clubs that have gained promotion to the NPL, Akwa United lost one, drew one and managed to secure a 3-1 victory over Jigawa Golden Stars on the final day to place third in the competition which held last week at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium Bauchi.
Speaking to Trustsports, the coach said he was not bothered by the performance of his players because he was able to get what he wanted even as he could not lift the trophy that was at stake.
Ogbeide explained that all he wanted to do was to give each and every of the players the opportunity to play so that he would identify those who deserve to remain in the team for the Premier League which commences in January.
He said even as victory is always sweet, he equally enjoyed the defeats because while those who win matches would go to sleep with the erroneous belief that they have good players, he would go back and work harder to assemble a crack side.
“I am happy because I was able to achieve what I wanted. I have used the competition to give the players the opportunity for them to prove themselves.
“Even as victory is normally sweet, I am still happy in defeat because the clubs that defeated us here would meet a different team when we meet again in the Premier League. They may go home with the wrong belief that their players are good but when we go back, I would redouble my efforts in raising a better team for the challenges ahead”.
Ogbeide said before the commencement of the new season, he would bring in at least eight experienced players in key positions to strengthen the team.
According to him, he has submitted a list of players he would like to recruit and what he is waiting for is the approval for him to go for such players.
“Already I have submitted a list of players I would like to sign to beef up the team in key positions. I cannot impose my decision on the management but I am confident I would be supported to present a strong team for the new challenges”, he stated.
