Al-Ansar Home, a charity organisation, has donated food items to vulnerable households and individuals in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The organisation distributed rice, beans, millet, oil, salt, sugar and noodles to widows and other vulnerable women in the area council to cushion the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on them.

Hajia Aminah Abubakar, the Ameerah of Al-Ansar, said though the organisation reaches out to the less privileged during the month of Ramadan, “the donation this time is more important because people are locked down at home”.

“This will help them to ease the pressure of the lockdown,” she said. “We feel that the government should not be left to do everything alone. The items donated are contributions from public-spirited people.”

Hajia Aminah said dozens of widows had been empowered since establishing the orphanage five years ago.
