“He did what he had to do and left for another engagement, he did not run away as being rumoured”, he said. Describing the reports as mere rumours and unjustified insinuations, the official said the embassy would today provide details on the development.
Al-Bashir was said to have left at Monday afternoon even when the summit which he came to Nigeria to attend had not wound-up, triggering reports that he must have been advised to leave to avoid arrest and a protest by human rights activists who had planned to march to the International Conference Center , venue of the international conference to picket it.
Britain and the United States have respectively expressed “regret” and “disappointment” on Nigeria’s Nigeria’s decision to welcome Al Bashir, instead of refusing him entry or even arresting him according to arrest warrants from the International Criminal Court. Nigerian rights activists after calling in vain for his arrest filed a suit in the Federal High Court on Monday to force his arrest but the Federal Government said he could not be arrested because he wasn’t on a state visit.  Daily Trust reports that Al Bashir was present at the summit on Monday and actually made a presentation before leaving, contrary to reports that he was absent when called to make his speech.
