Al-Hikmah Records Highest Matriculation with 1,883 Fresh Students

Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, has matriculated 1,883 new students into various academic programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Lateef Folorunsho Oladimeji, disclosed this while delivering his address at the 21st ceremony held simultaneously at the institution’s main and Atere campuses in Ilorin.

He described the figure as the highest number of students ever admitted and matriculated in the history of the University.

Oladimeji attributed the development to the growing confidence of parents and applicants in the institution’s academic standards and moral orientation.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the newly admitted students were enrolled across 100, 200 and 300 levels, with 1,409 admitted into 100 level, 457 into 200 level and 15 into 300 level programmes.

A breakdown of the enrolment shows that the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences recorded the highest number with 390 students, followed by the Faculty of Education with 316 students and the College of Health Sciences with 225 students.

The Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Technology admitted 231 students, while Nursing Sciences recorded 205 new students.

The Natural and Applied Sciences had 180 students, Management Sciences 111 students, Law 87 students, Clinical Sciences 67 students and Agriculture 71 students.

Within the College of Health Sciences, Public Health accounted for 79 students, Medical Laboratory Science 75 students, Human Anatomy 43 students and Human Physiology 28 students.

Medicine and Surgery recorded 67 students under the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, while Nursing Science admitted 205 students.

In the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Technology, Computer Science admitted 97 students, Cyber Security 87 students, Software Engineering 31 students and Information Systems 16 students.

Mass Communication led enrolment figures in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences with 88 students, followed by Islamic Studies with 101 students and English with 51 students.

Prof. Oladimeji told the students that their admission and acceptance of the offer signified their belief in the University’s motto of “Learning for Wisdom and Morality”.

He urged them to uphold discipline, moral uprightness and academic excellence.

He reminded the students that the ”matriculation oath binds them to obey all rules and regulations of the University”.

The VC stressed that “cooperation with management is essential for a successful academic life”.

Oladimeji said the University has expanded its facilities to accommodate rising admission demands, even as it continues to contend with limited human and material resources.

He noted that management had, in the past two months, “invested heavily in security infrastructure to safeguard lives and property, adding that more sophisticated security measures would be introduced in the coming weeks”.

Prof. Oladimeji also said that the University’s library, gymnasium and sports facilities were available to help students balance academic work with physical wellbeing, while the counselling unit remains active to support students facing personal or academic challenges.

He further announced that hostel accommodation is compulsory for students, except for a few with genuine reasons, and encouraged the students to regularly consult the University’s website for important information, noting that 24-hour internet access is available on campus.

On behalf of the Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Alhaji Abdul-Raheem Oladimeji, the Governing Council and the University community, the Vice-Chancellor congratulated the students on their successful admission and wished them a fruitful stay in the institution.
