The investigative panel constituted last week into the impeachment allegations against Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State, this morning, commenced sitting in what may have defied the controversial resolution passed by 19 members of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for its dissolution.The panel is currently sitting in the complex of the Ministry of Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affaiirs along Shendam Road in Lafia, about 30 meters away from the complex of the assembly.
The panel is sitting under tight police security which was put up as early as 7:30am to await the arrival of the seven members.
the sitting may have defied a controversial resolution passed by 19 of the 20 members of the House who signed an impeachment notice against the governor. A purported plenary session of the 19 members, held in Karu at the gateway to Abuja, resolved and directed the Chief Judge, Justice Suleiman Dikko to dissolve the panel because its members are not suitable, just as the resolution directed the CJ to constitute a new panel and report back to the House to get the guidelines for their operation.
But the panel, this morning commenced the sitting, after all.
Mr. Enoch Ali Maku, Public Relations Officer to the Chief Judge confirmed that the panel is sitting in Lafia as earlier planned, just as he confirmed that the controversial Karu proceeding directed the CJ to dissolve the panel and set up a new one.
He however declined to say whether or not the sitting defied the controversial resolution.
“The CJ was communicated yesterday (Wednesday) in evening about the resolution you are talking about. The CJ is in receipt of the resolution. He was served. Any other thin, I am not aware,” Maku said.
Members of the investigative panel are: Yusuf Shehu Usman as chairman, and Mohammed Sabo Keana; a former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Reverend Joel Galadima, Alhaji Abdul Usman, Samuel Chaku, Mohammed Sani Usman and Pastor Daniel Chaga as members.
