Alaba Rago Market, one of Lagos State’s most active commercial centres, is undergoing a significant transformation through a fencing project spearheaded by Equity Circle.
The initiative, supported by the Lagos State Government under the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, is part of a broader strategy to enhance security, infrastructure, and economic empowerment for market traders.
At the heart of the project is Arch. Gbolahan Oki, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, whose oversight ensures the initiative aligns with the state’s vision for modern, well-structured markets.
“This fencing project is a cornerstone for sustainable urban development, creating a secure and thriving environment for Alaba Rago’s traders,” he said
Fabian George, Director at Equity Circle, confirmed that construction is progressing steadily and is expected to be completed by Q4 2025, saying, “The government’s streamlined approvals and resources, guided by leaders like Arch. Oki, have been critical to our success.”
The fencing features reinforced concrete pillars and gatehouses placed at strategic points to improve both security and market operations.
Hon. Yisa Abiola Jubril, Chairman of Iba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has played a key role in ensuring community involvement, engaging with traders to ensure their concerns are reflected in the project design.
Beyond fencing, the government has revealed plans for further upgrades to Alaba Rago Market, including improved road access and enhanced waste management systems—all aimed at positioning the area as a more efficient and prosperous commercial hub.
Traders have welcomed the changes. Chukwudi Okeke, an electronics dealer in the market, said: “This project shows the government cares about our businesses.”
With continued collaboration between Equity Circle and the Lagos State Government, Alaba Rago Market is poised to become a model for how targeted infrastructure can drive grassroots economic growth and urban renewal.
