The chairman of the National Albinism Association of Nigeria, Cross River State chapter, Bassey Mbang, has called on the federal government to resuscitate the free cancer treatment programme for persons with albinism.

 He said nine of their members were suffering from skin cancer and were unable to handle the treatment.

 Mbang spoke in an interview during which he also appealed to individuals and corporate organisations to assist them with sunshades, umbrellas and awareness campaigns against discrimination.

 He said, “In Cross River, we have about 800 people with albinism scattered all over the state. Nine are presently suffering from skin cancer.

 “We need to create awareness for the public and government to help us, and so that we can know how to manage the condition.”

The national president of the association, Jake Epelle, also appealed to governments, at state and national levels, to assist them in getting free skin cancer treatment.
