The All Progressives Congress(APC) has called all its members in the Senate and the House of Representatives to block all proposals and appointments sent to them by the executive including the 2014 budget until the government stops its impunity.
The party stated this in a communique issued at the end of the 8th meeting of its Interim National Executive meeting held in Abuja Thursday.
The communique reads;
“Following on the foregoing and in view of the joint resolutions of the National Assembly on Rivers state, and other constitutional breaches by the presidency,the APC hereby directs all its members in the national assembly to block all legislative proposals including the 2014 budget and confirmation of all nominees to military and civilian positions to public office until the rule of law and constitutionalism is restored in Rivers state in particular and nigeria in general”
Citing example of Rivers state, the party said,any keen observer of what has been happening in Rivers state since February,2013 will know that,the culture of impunity being promoted and sponsored by the presidency using the police commissioner Joseph Mbu calls for complete action against impunity by the APC and all Nigerians.
“The National Executive Committee of the APC has now resolved that,if their acts of impunity and lawlessness continue unabated and the police persists in being used as an enforcement arm of the PDP to the detriment of our members,it will have no alternative than to ask our teaming members all over the country and especially in Rivers state to take whatever steps are necessary to protect their lives and property”
The party also commended the courage and political sagacity of the Rivers state governor,Rotimi Amaechi in the face of unprovoked assaults on his person,administration and people of the state.
APC said,the action of the governor against his detractors represents the party’s maturity and ideology of non violence and respect for law and order.
The party also recalls the recent series of impunities and lawlessness in Rivers state including the dispersal with teargas of newly recruited teachers in Portharcourt and the blockade of the road leading to the government house forcing the governor to detour to a different route.
It also said the ruling party used the police to disrupt peaceful rallies while allowing anti-Amaechi and pro-Jonathan rallies in the state and the shooting of Senator Magnus Abbey by the police during one of the rallies
The meeting was chaired by the Interim National Chairman of the party,Chief Bisi Akande and attended by General Muhammad Buhari(Rtd),Bola Ahmed Tinubu,Dr.Ogbonnaya Onu, and the governors of Rivers,Lagos,Edo,Nassarawa,Kwara,Borno,Adamawa,Yobe,Sokoto,Ekiti Ogun and the Deputy governors of Oyo,Imo Kano,Zamfara and other party leaders.
