The newly appointed Director General of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Sir. Itiako Ikpokpo, on Wednesday, assumed duty at the ALGON Headquarters, Maitama, Abuja, with the promise to ensure LGs provide services for the people.
The new DG said his main focus would be on the area of capacity building, because it’s lack, according to him, is why local governments are not functioning properly.
For example, Ikpokpo said that empowering our various vigilante groups as an arm of state police would be able to enhance the security situation in various local governments in Nigeria.
He added that ALGON team will continue to partner with the Nigeria Governors Forum NGF in order to ensure stability based on a lot of happenings in the past.
While thanking the immediate past National President of ALGON, Kolade Alabi and the current one Alh. Aminu Maifata Muazu, the new DG said proper funding of local governments is essential for them to be able to provide the much needed services.
