The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Aminu Mu’azu Maifata, has condoled with the residents and government of Borno State over the devastating flood that recently hit Maiduguri, the state capital.
Speaking on behalf of the chairmen of the 774 local government areas across Nigeria, ALGON president, Hon. Aminu Mu’azu Maifata, in a statement sympathised with the families who lost loved ones and properties as a result of the disaster, while calling for urgent aid to alleviate the current state of the disaster.
According to the statement which was made available to Daily Trust on Thursday, the ALGON president called on the federal government to take immediate action by declaring a state of emergency in Maiduguri and providing adequate resources to assist the victims.
“We commiserate with the families who have suffered losses in this disaster, and our thoughts remain with them. This tragedy requires urgent government intervention.

“We further urge the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant bodies to expedite the distribution of relief materials to the flood-ravaged areas just as there is a need for swift and coordinated efforts to prevent future occurrences, advocating for a multi-stakeholder approach to address the root causes of the floods and to ensure that necessary support is important and ALGON will come in to lend the needed support,” Maifata said.
