After successful outings in Bauchi and Minna, Nigeria’s polo season hits a high note as the prestigious Katsina International Polo Tournament returns from August 16-23, 2025, coinciding with the centenary of the Nigeria Polo Association (NPA).

This year’s edition, themed the “Sir Usman Nagogo Memorial NPA Tournament, Katsina 2025”, pays homage to the founding father of Nigerian polo and will be staged at the historic Sir Usman Nagogo Polo Ground, Kofar Yandaka, Katsina.

Backed by the Katsina State Government and top corporate partners, the tournament promises a thrilling eight-day spectacle, with over 20 teams expected from clubs across Kaduna, Kano, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Yola, Jos, Bauchi, and host Katsina.

President of Katsina Polo Club, Alh. Sanusi Kabir Usman (Karshin Katsina), said the tournament will celebrate 100 years of polo legacy.

Club Chairman Muhammadu Usman Sarki added that preparations were in top gear:

“We are crafting an event that will excel in every aspect as the national polo tour arrives at the ‘Home of Nigerian Polo.’”

Marquee prizes include the Nigerian Cup, General Hassan Usman Katsina Cup, Muhammadu Dikko Cup, President’s Cup, Governor’s Cup, and Talba Cup. Individual awards will recognize top players and contributors.

Last year, Jos Malcomines, led by Murtala Laushi, made history as the first Jos team to win the Nigerian Cup. Max Air and Rubicon, led by Senator Hadi Sirika, shared the Muhammadu Dikko Cup. Katsina Danmarna and Katsina Aldusar thrilled home fans by claiming the General Hassan Katsina and Talba Cups, respectively.
