No week goes by without a scandal running through the Nigerian Entertainment industry. In this week’s episode, Weekend Trust chronicles the ongoing scandal involving Yoruba film stars Baba Tee and Ijoba Lande, and also reactions from fans on the growing situation.
Many will argue that although marriage is hard, celebrity marriages are harder. It can be said that the heartbreak and disappointment felt is usually worse because of the trust and hope placed in those marriages by their fans.
This recent saga all began when actor and skit maker Ganiyu Morufu, known as Ijoba Lande, disclosed in a trending video online that he was aware of his ex-wife Darasimi’s extra marital affairs.
He said, “To be sincere, I never suspected her of cheating at first. I used to swear it was impossible. But I began to suspect something around June or July 2024, when she started avoiding intimacy. By December, I confirmed my fears.”

The comedian emphasised that the partners involved were personalities from the entertainment industry in which he called out actor Baba Tee’s name.
He said: “I have eight videos of other men being intimate with my wife aside from Baba Tee. It’s so painful. I watched how these men were treating her.
“So, if she behaves like that as a single mother, it does not mean all single mothers will behave like that. It is just on her will to be promiscuous. Since I left her, no woman appeals to me anymore; I have been avoiding women. I’m embittered by the whole situation. She’s a bad woman.”
In an attempt to respond, Baba Tee initially dismissed the allegations, stating that he had only come in contact with Lande’s wife through a friend, Marygold, and was never aware of her marital status.
One will think the drama ended there but Baba Tee’s next statement led to a can of worms being opened. In a shocking turn of events, Baba Tee acknowledged that he had been with Lande’s wife.
He went on to describe how a game of ‘Truth and Dare’, when Marygold and Darasimi visited, had led to a short intimate session with Lande’s wife.
Not long after Baba Tee told his side of the story, Darasimi also took to social media to speak on the claims levelled against her.
In an interview with socialite Esabod and other TikTokers, she went on to state that Lande’s claim of infidelity being the root cause of their failed marriage was false, and that she had never engaged in any intimate activity with Baba Tee.
“Marygold had dared Baba Tee and me to engage intimately. However, I refused and told him I would sit on him. We then told Marygold to turn to the wall so she wouldn’t watch us. I only sat on his lap; we didn’t do anything.”
Darasimi further called out her husband over his allegations, saying he was fully aware that she wasn’t promiscuous and demanded he provided evidence to back up his claim. “I will not say why we broke up for now due to some personal reasons, but it wasn’t about infidelity,” she said.
On the other hand, Marygold, who has been labelled as the instigator of the encounter, issued an apology to Lande, asking that he forgives her for the role she played in the alleged affair with Baba Tee while also insinuating that Dara had another affair with someone she didn’t disclose.
She said, “I’m pleading with Lande to forgive me for taking his wife to Baba Tee’s house and for also allowing her and the other guy she cheated with to treat an infection in my house.”
Baba Tee has also issued his own apology stating, “I deeply regret what happened between Ijoba Lande’s wife and me. Right now, I am extremely disappointed in myself. We do many things in private, but we must uphold moral values. I never imagined this would become public.
“I take full responsibility for my actions and deeply regret this immoral behaviour. Please join me in apologising to Ijoba Lande. To my fans, I appreciate every single one of you. Please consider me a first-time offender because, to the best of my knowledge, I have never done anything like this before,” he pleaded.
Soon after, Lande posted a video where he expressed gratitude to his followers, friends, and other fans who have stood by him since making his revelation. He also took the chance to respond to Baba Tee’s apology video, saying he had forgiving Baba Tee and bears no grudges against him.
He also announced that he had forgiven his wife but had no intentions of reviving their marriage.
Celebrities, fans react
Although few celebrities have lent their voice to the ongoing saga, Portable has issued a warning following the increased marriage scandals in the industry.
Reacting to the situation, Portable sent Baba Tee a direct message slamming the act and cautioning that no one should try it with his wife Ashabi who is also an actress.
In a voice note translated from Yoruba, the singer said, “Baba Tee, you are not supposed to be sleeping with another man’s wife. Is that how you people behave in the movie industry? If anyone tries that nonsense with my wife, the person will kpai! Sleeping with someone else’s wife brings setbacks in life. Don’t let that repeat itself!
On X formerly twitter, many drummed support for Ijoba Lande, stating that he endured a bad wife and a terrible marriage.
An X user @zhurg_ said, “From the story of Ijoba Lande, all I can say is, be intentional about the person or persons you want to date or get intimate with. Investigate them like mad. It’s not creepy anymore, we live in a weird world now. Or just stay single
Another X user @Lonerdjoker said, “Ijoba Lande’s case should serve as a lesson to y’all. You should never blindly love a woman. Lande’s life is like this because he over loved his wife and couldn’t discover her quickly. Imagine taking care of her two kids.”
Other users also reflected on the importance of good friends and the value of friendship.
@ipreferrjonatha said, “This whole Ijoba Lande issue strengthened my belief in the effect and influence of bad friends, especially in female friendships.”
