Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) has said the man identified as Onwuegbuka accused of sexually assaulting an 8-year-old is not a pharmacist as contained in several online media reports.

PSN President Ahmed Yakasai said the PSN commissioned an investigation into the incident through its branch in Anambra.

In a statement in Lagos on Saturday, the President said, "PSN Anambra Branch went to work and found out at Otuocha Police station that the incident never involved a Pharmacist but a Patent Medicine Vendor-so called “Chemist” who never claimed to be a Pharmacist.

"PSN Anambra Branch also visited the said premises and confirmed that it is a patent medicine shop and not even registered, running illegally and got it sealed with PCN seal and padlock."

Yakasai expressed regret that the media reports especially online wrongly attributed the incident to a pharmacist, saying pharmacists are men of honour and none of its members would have committed such an ignominious act.
