The families of late J. B. Osuhor of Umunnede in Delta State and late Wilfred Obiora Efifie of Agulu in Anambra State have petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over the continued detention of two of their members who have been linked to the death of one Mrs Vivian Osuhor.

One of the detained family members, Jude Osuhor, is the husband of the deceased, while the other, Ms Happiness Efifie, is a sister of the deceased.

One Ms Loveth Efifie, also a sister to the deceased, is accusing Jude and Happiness of murdering her (Mrs Osuhor).

The representatives of the two families, in a joint press conference on Tuesday in Abuja, accused the police of illegally detaining the duo on trumped-up charges of killing Mrs Osuhor on the order of Ms Loveth Efifie.

Spokesperson of the families, Mrs Uche Oniemola, flanked by other members of the families, appealed to the IGP to use his good office and respect the order of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which has granted the unconditional release of Jude and Happiness.

Mrs Oniemola said all entreaties by the families to get the duo released had fallen on deaf ears as they had been detained first in Lagos and then in Abuja. She said even after an autopsy was performed on the corpse and nothing was found, they were still not released.

She, said, “Mr Jude Osuhor, our son and brother-in-law, and Ms Happiness Efifie, our daughter and sister-in-law, are currently being held unjustifiably on a trumped-up, spurious and diabolical allegation on the death of Mrs Vivian Osuhor, who actually died in a hospital under the care of qualified doctors.

“Medical reports have shown that she died from pregnancy-related complications, fibroid menorrhagia, septicemia and diabetic ketoacidosis as shown in the death certificate and medical report.’’

The families pleaded that Jude and Happiness should be released unconditionally for burial of the deceased, and particularly for Jude to mourn his late wife and care for their two children aged six and 14 months in exercise of his fundamental human rights.
