Former Minister of National Planning, Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman has challenged the verdict of the Federal High Court in Lagos dismissing his no-case file submission.

Sulaiman and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr. Dele Belgore had been dragged to the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged N450m laundering.

They were alleged to have collected N450million from former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke to influence the outcome of the 2015 general elections in favour of former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.

The duo had in February filed a no-case submission through their counsel, asking the court to discharge them from the criminal trial. The trial judge had adjourned the ruling to today.

But Justice Ridwan Aikawa had in his ruling said the defendants have a case to answer and directed them to open their defence.

Responding to the ruling, Sulaiman said the verdict was curious, saying there is more to it. He also hinted on the possibility of appealing the verdict.

“There is more to this judgement and I will consult with my counsel and take necessary action. It is shocking and unbelievable. I think there is more to that judgement”, he said.
