The secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Aspirants Screening Committee was a beehive of activities yesterday as those wishing to contest the party’s tickets ahead the 2027 general elections trooped in to purchase forms.
The sale of expression of interest and nomination forms started on Tuesday in Abuja for aspirants to purchase forms. Our correspondent reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was the first to obtain his form on Tuesday while other followed suit.
Among those that obtained the forms for governor yesterday are the Senator representing Oyo South and leading governorship aspirant on the platform of the APC, Sharafadeen Alli; the immediate past minister of foreign affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, immediate past minister of transport, Sa’idu Ahmed Alkali and a former commissioner in Ogun State, Abayomi Semako Hunye.
Forms were obtained for other positions by the governor of Adamawsa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who is contesting for Senate. Former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives , Ahmed Idris Wase; Senator Mohammed Sani Musa, known as “Senator 313,”. And House of Representatives aspirant, Olamijuwonlo Alao Akala.
In the case of Gov Nasir Idris, the Kebbi State Commissioners’ Forum obtained the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for him.
The Senator representing Oyo South and leading governorship aspirant on the platform of the APC, Sharafadeen Alli,also obtained the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms ahead of the 2027 elections.
Alli was accompanied by senatorial hopefuls from the state, including Senator Yusuf Akintunde, who is seeking to return to the Senate to represent Oyo Central, and Honourable Remi Oseni, who is contesting for the Oyo South senatorial ticket.
Speaking with journalists after obtaining his forms, Alli said his ambition to govern Oyo State is driven by a desire to deliver effective governance and address developmental gaps at the grassroots level.
He pledged to make government more accessible and people-oriented if elected, stressing that his aspiration is rooted in a commitment to empower communities and improve living standards across the state.
According to him, his political journey and prior experience in governance have prepared him for the task ahead.
Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan on the other hand, is aspiring for the governorship seat of Borno State. He will face Engr Mustapha Gubio, the anointed candidate of governor Babagana Zulum, who equally purchased the gubernatorial forms on Tuesday.
Hunye’s decision contrasts sharply with the recent adoption of Senator representing Ogun West, Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the APC’s consensus governorship candidate.
Daily Trust reports that on April 13, leaders of APC in the state, including Governor Dapo Abiodun, unanimously adopted Adeola as the party’s consensus candidate ahead of the next election.
Also in Plateau State, a group under the aegis of the ‘Wase Equity Project’, a non-profit Socio-Cultural Organisation of Wase extraction on Wednesday obtain form for the Deputy Speaker of the 9th Assembly, Ahmed Idris Wase.
At the formal presentation Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms by the Organisation in Abuja, the organisation which comprises of sons and daughters of from Wase Federal Constituency in Plateau State State said, they are confident that his continue presence at the National Assembly will sustain the growth already achieve through him at the Federal level.
The group through their Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Mohammed Badu, said their decision to support Wase reflects the collective belief that true leadership must be sustained when it continues to deliver meaningful results as example with his cordial relationship, accessible leadership style and welfare of his people.
