Why do we have to eradicate Almajiri system in Nigeria? A prominent politician, of blessed memory, once mentioned that the children we refuse to train today will not allow the ones trained to rest. And if you look around, this is already happening in our country.
In addition to having a column or corner for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children in Daily Trust, I advise that there should be a dedicated programme on this issue on Trust TV at least monthly. On this programme, the governors of relevant states in Nigeria or their representatives should be interviewed on the subject with the aim of charting a way forward.
If we are able to eradicate Almajiri system in Nigeria, then our social indices will move up, and we would all be glad we gave a helping hand to the needy.
