Preaching at the thanks giving service in honour of the celebrant at the NKST Church, Hon Amua Mbayion in Gboko local government area of Benue State, Pastor Akpen who preached on the topic “Go back and give thanks to God”, said the case of Dr Shaahu is similar to that of the 10 lepers in the bible.
According to the man of God, after healing the 10 lepers at the Galilee, only one of them remembered to come back and give thanks in appreciation of the kind gesture.
Pastor Akpen encouraged the celebrant and the entire Christian community to remember to come and give thanks to God in what ever situation they find themselves by worshiping God in truth through shunning all forms of jealousy, gossips, drunkenness and other bad habits.
Speaking at the reception, the President General of Yion Development Association (YIDA), Mr B. T. Kyado noted that even though Shaahu came from a very poor family background he worked hard and he has got to where he is today. The President General urged youths of Mbayion to emulate him.
According to him, the Dangote Cement scholarship scheme is grossly inadequate for the less privileged in Mbayion community so they should strive to be self-sustaining.
He said Shaahu has made history by the feat he has achieved.
In his remarks, the celebrant who solemnly narrated his life experience said he was admitted to read Medicine at the University of Jos in 1991 but he could not go due to lack of sponsorship.
He was later admitted to read Animal Production at the University of Agriculture Makurdi where he studied up to Ph.D level.
He said his decision to come and give thanks to God was his token of appreciation over his mercies on him.
He commended Professors Daniel Uza, Steve Ikyuior and a host of others for supporting him in their prayers and wise counsel that saw him through the programme.
