The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Obinna Simon, popularly known as MC Tagwaye, has decried the incessant strike actions by teachers in the area.
During a press briefing over the weekend, Simon noted that teachers—who only recently resumed work after a five-month strike spanning 2025 and 2026—are already threatening to embark on a fresh industrial action over poor conditions of service.
While reiterating his call for a state of emergency in the council’s education sector to address service conditions and professional training, he maintained that the welfare of teachers must be paramount to encourage them to give their best toward nation-building.
He said:
“Is it not when somebody is comfortable that he will teach children very well? I was a teacher myself; how we teach when a salary comes is different from how we teach when there is no salary.”
Furthermore, Simon expressed grave concern over the dilapidated state of primary healthcare facilities in AMAC.
On the issue of security, he emphasized the need for a collaborative approach involving traditional rulers, the area council, and security agencies.
