Amaechi alleges assassination plot before Saturday polls

Amaechi told journalists in Lagos that he got to know about the plot through a reliable source that warned him not to go to his village, Ubiam, for the Saturday election.
“I gathered that 30 soldiers from 82 Division in Owerri to be led by a major, who is of Benue State origin, will be coming to Port Harcourt for what they called ‘ranking’ and that I should be careful,” he alleged.
Amaechi alleged further that, “I learnt that the State Security Service men will storm Port Harcourt for the ‘ranking’ and when they finish, the soldiers will come in and give cover. I can tell you that President Goodluck Jonathan is part of the plot, because there is no way a governor would be killed without the president knowing about it.”
Governor Amaechi added that he has petitioned the office of the president and decided to bring the matter to public domain so that if anything happened to him, Nigerians would know those to be held responsible.
He added that “I will not run away from this country. If I must die, I will die here. If you’re clamouring for change, you don’t run away from making the change a reality.”
But in his reaction, director of media and publicity of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation (PDPDPCO), Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, described Amaechi’s claim as false.
“The president has no intention of killing him (Amaechi) and neither does he wish him dead.  We would rather defeat him and his presidential candidate at the polls on Saturday and ensure that he is alive to witness it rather than kill him,” he said.
