‘Amaka’s Kin – The Women of Nollywood,’ a documentary by Tope Oshin, dedicated to the memory of one of Nigeria’s most prolific and renowned filmmakers and TV mogul, late Amaka Igwe (1963-2014), will premiere in Nigeria, at the ‘Beyond Nollywood Film Festival.’
The piece is a chronicle of female directors working in Nollywood, as well as their various journeys and challenges – while examining their careers as they practise in the very male-dominated industry, surmounting hurdles to success.
It features Omoni Oboli, Ema Edosio, Blessing Effiom Egbe, Jadesola Osiberu, Mildred Okwo, Stephanie Linus, Tope Oshin, Dolapo Lowladee Adeleke, Pat Oghre Imobhio, Adeola Osunkojo, Belinda Yanga Agedah and Michelle Bello.
The festival is a program of the Black Star, which is an initiative of the British Film Institute (BFI) Film Festival focused on celebrating the range, versatility and power of black actors.
Nollywood actress Nse Ikpe Etim is expected to reflect on her career and the Nollywood star system in conversation with Nadia Denton at the three-day event in November which will screen the movies – ‘Green White Green,’ ‘Ireti’ and ‘The Gods Are Not To Blame,’ among others.
